Xtreem Flat Track Ready To Invade 80th Annual Sturgis Rally

Tyler Sarjeant

STURGIS, South Dakota, July 28, 2020 - -  Just a few short weeks ago, rumors swirled that flat track racing  would not be a part of the 80th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  For an event that was founded upon the sport, it didn’t seem possible.  Enter Xtreem Flat Track.  The series formerly known as the Vintage Dirt Track Racing Association, stepped in to make sure flat track racing stood front and center as part of the 80th edition of the world’s largest motorcycle gathering. Racing fans will be able to get their fix, as Xtreem Flat Track will hold seven races in nine days at three different venues that will test the merits of the best Pro and Amateur Flat Track Racers from the United States and abroad.

The week is dubbed the Ronnie Stratton Memorial Sturgis Rally Championship and will offer Pro Flat Trackers a nightly purse at each event and the chance to score points for the week in hopes of a $2,500 championship bonus.  An Open Amateur High Point Champion will also be rewarded handsomely with a new set of custom leathers from Moto-Gear, a new helmet from LS2, a new steel shoe from Lightshoe, and a $500 Visa gas card to help them get down the road.  A nightly purse will also be up for grabs for Hooligan racers as well as an Open Vintage Class.

“We’ve been working our tails off over the past few weeks to put these events together in a very short time frame, said Jason Baffrey, Xtreem Flat Track Marketing & Promotions Director. ”We couldn’t be more excited to offer fans and racers a chance to experience flat track racing at Sturgis.”

It will be a gauntlet for racers. They will kick things off at the Jackpine Gypsies Short Track on August 7, 8, and 10.  On August 11 & 13, they’ll move to the Legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip for the Buffalo Chip Super TT.  This track designed by XFT President Jake Latimer, his father/former racer Frank Latimer, and current Pro racer Robert “Bugs” Pearson will be unlike anything racers or fans have ever experienced before in flat track racing. The Buffalo Chip Super TT will be a half-mile featuring multiple “jumps”, right turns, and “Horsepower Hill” which will feature riders battling bar to bar uphill at more than 60 miles per hour.  The week will culminate with the Rapid City Half-Mile at the incredibly fast Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota on Friday, August 14, and Saturday, August 15, where the Ronnie Stratton Memorial Sturgis Rally Champions will be awarded their bonus and custom made trophies from Gary Kinzler at Lightshoe.

“If you love racing, you don’t want to miss this,” said Baffrey. “Seeing the best riders on three different styles of tracks and battling for the Ronnie Stratton Memorial Sturgis Rally Championship is going to provide a great weel of entertainment for die-hards and new fans.  All I can really say is BE THERE!”

Spectator tickets for each event are only $20 for adults, $5 for ages 5-12, and 5 and under are free. For a full schedule, classes, rules, and racer information visit xtreemflattrack.com.
