Rider Bio:
Darren fell in love with Flat Tracking when he was gifted a bike that had been reduced to boxes of parts. Along with his cousin “Uncle Mark” Leopold he reassembled the bike which became known as “the Dragon”. The Dragon is a unique 1969 Kawasaki A7, rotary valve, 350cc twin 2-stroke housed in an American Eagle flat track frame. These frames were custom built in Albuquerque in the 60’s and 70’s.
This bike was also previously owned and raced by Werner Kuhn thru Bobby J’s Yamaha and by Randy King who gifted the bike to Darren. Darren added his own special touch by painting a dragon’s eye on the gas tank, hence the name, “the Dragon.”
Hobbies outside of Motorcycles:
Darren lives in Franklin, Texas at the “Funny Farm” with his favorite trophy, his wife Christy. He also practices on his own track built to similar specs as Costa Mesa. His track is a hard packed clay track and shares the pasture with cattle earning the name of the “Costa Manure Speedway”. Darren was encouraged to try the sport of flat track in part by the variety of classes offered at Xtreem Racing events.
